Stam confident that transfer target is ‘perfect’ for AC Milan
Former AC Milan defender Jaap Stam backs the signing of Sven Botman and is confident he will form a perfect duo with Tomori.
AC Milan could soon have a new owner with Elliott Management expected to sell the club to Investcorp. The arrival of the Bahrain fund will have a great impact on the Rossoneri summer signings. Maldini will have more money to spend but the arrival of Sven Botman and Divock Origi is not in doubt regardless of the change in ownership.
AC Milan have been in talks with the Dutch centre back for the past six months. Botman has already agreed on a five-year contract refusing richer offers from the Premier League. The transfer of the 22-year-old will cost AC Milan slightly over 30 million euros.
Despite the recent emergence of Pierre Kalulu, AC Milan have decided to spend a big fee on a new defender. The Rossoneri former centre back Jaap Stam supports the signing of Sven Botman and believes he will form a perfect partnership alongside Fikayo Tomori.
“In 2013 I was assistant manager of Pec Zwolle, he was 13 and played for Ajax. As soon as I saw him I said to myself ‘well, this kid is not bad at all’. He looks like me? In something yes, he is very solid but I was also a full-back. He has a vision of the game, a sense of positioning and technique but he is not very fast. Whoever takes Sven Botman will be settled for many years, he will become one of the best centre backs in Europe. Botman with Tomori would be a perfect duo“, said Jaap Stam in an interview for Gazzetta dello Sport.
The towering Dutch defender spent two years at the Rossoneri. Stam made 66 appearances with AC Milan, helping the club win the Italian SuperCup and reach the Champions League final in 2005. Botman has often been hailed by the press as the heir of Stam for the similar physical structure and precise interventions.
